As the end of the school year approaches the Woman’s Club of Parsippany- Troy Hills is proud to have honored so many Parsippany students during the year. The 61 year old club gives student awards from elementary through high school. This year the club awarded nine high school scholarships, $750 each, sponsored two Girls Career Delegates, granted six 8th Grade Citizenship Awards and presented ten 5th Grade Reading Awards. The awards are given at each township high school, middle school, All Saints Academy and each of the ten public elementary schools. The club also established a new scholarship for a woman in the Jersey Battered Women’s Services program who is going back to school. In addition, the club sponsored Project Graduation, donated books and read to preschool children in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
The club’s educational programs began in 1955, when there was one high school, and Parsippany was not the bustling township it is today. Over the years the club has given nearly $100,000 back to Parsippany’s students through its awards program. It was also one of the first donors and driving force behind the establishment of the town library.
All these good works were made possible through the proceeds from the club’s annual golf classic fundraiser. This year the 34th Annual Tee Off for Education Golf Classic at the Knoll West Country Club will be held Tuesday July 14. The cost for golfers is $100.00 and includes golf cart and green fees, continental breakfast, hot lunch, door prizes, Tricky Tray and much more. Non golfers can join friends to play cards, socialize and enjoy the continental breakfast, hot lunch and other activities for $35.00.
