In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2, members of the Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills (WCPTH) read to the children at the Parsippany Child Day Care Center. The National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2, Theodore Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) birthday.

WCPTH members also donated a copy of What Pet Should I Get to the Day Care Center Library and provided afternoon snacks to the children for a Dr. Seuss party! As part of their Annual Dr. Seuss Project, copies of Oh, Say Can You Say and Great Day for Up were donated to the Parsippany Library System. Proceeds for this, and other educational projects were made possible by the funds raised at the club’s annual Tee Off for Education Golf Classic Fundraiser. This year’s 35th Annual Tee Off for Education Golf Classic & Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, July 12th at the Knoll Country Club (West).

Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, parents and books. Millions of students nationwide and even around the world picked up a book and read Seuss on the Loose for NEA’s 19th annual Read Across America Day.

At the time of his death in 1991, Theodore Geisel had written and illustrated 44 children’s books, including such all-time favorites as Green Eggs and Ham, Oh, the Places You’ll Go, Fox in Socks, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. His books have been translated into more than 15 languages. Over 200 million copies had found their way into homes and hearts around the world. Besides the books, his works have provided the source for eleven children’s television specials, a Broadway musical and a feature-length motion picture.

Women’s Clubs nationally are credited with founding over 75% of the nation’s libraries. Literacy and education are a main focus of Women’s Club. The Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC (NJSFWC), which is the largest volunteer women’s service organization in the state, providing opportunities for education, leadership training, and community service. For membership information call Cathy at 973-984-0758 and for Golf Classic information call Lois at 973-887-6627.
